Beaver Brook Reservation

Beaver Brook Reservation was named by John Winthrop, leader of the Massachusetts Bay Company, who explored the brook in the 1630s and observed many beaver dams according to the Waverley Trail signage.

The first acquisition to what is now the Beaver Brook Reservation was made in 1893. Beaver Brook is now managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR).

The Reservation, sometimes referred to as Waverley Oaks, includes the Brook and 59 acres of open fields, wetlands and woodlands, and is home to squirrels, birds, ducks and other wildlife. It offers recreation in many forms, including running and walking on the Waverley Trail and a children's spray deck and playground. At Beaver Brook you will find people walking their dogs, playing tennis, bird watching and having family picnics or outings.
